A pickup truck and car collided on Interstate 95 in Westport Friday night, sending two Massachusetts men to the hospital.

The accident took place about 7:30 p.m. between I-95's northbound Exits 17 and 18, according to Westport firefighters.

The driver and passenger of a car complained of neck and back pain their car collided with a pickup driven by a Fairfield man, and they struck the highway median. The truck driver was uninjured, firefighters said.

The Massachusetts men were placed on backboards and transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.

Traffic on I-95 northbound was tied up as one lane was shut down for emergency operations at the accident scene. In addition to Westport firefighters, Westport EMS, Access Ambulance and State Police were dispatched to the scene.

Both damaged vehicles had to be taken off the highway by flatbed truck.
