The town’s annual household hazardous waste collection will take place Saturday.

The program is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westport/Weston Health District, 180 Bayberry Lane.

Residents will be able to safely dispose of hazardous materials accumulating in their basements and garages.

The following materials will be accepted for disposal:

From the garage: degreasers, gasoline, kerosene, mineral spirits, oil-based paints, paint strippers, paint thinners, solvents, stains, turpentine, varnishes, wood preservatives, etc.

Gardening: fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, etc.

General household items: bleach, charcoal lighter, cleaning chemicals, drain cleaners, fish chemicals, flammable liquids, mercury thermometers, moth balls, pet flea shampoos, photo chemicals, rug shampoos, spot removers, etc.

The following items can be recycled at the town’s transfer station on the Sherwood Island Connector during standards operating hours: latex paint, antifreeze, motor oil, batteries of any type, fluorescent bulbs, compact fluorescent bulbs and electronics.

The following materials will not be accepted: ammunition, flares, smoke detectors and commercial hazardous waste.
