Pomperaug at Notre Dame
Pomperaug (1-0) pounded Newtown 54-7 to open the season in impressive fashion. They rushed for over 300 yards using three sets of backs and their defense didn't allow a touchdown. Notre Dame-Fairfield (0-1), normally one of the SWC's most potent offensive teams, was stymied in last week's 24-0 loss to Brookfield. Pomperaug stung the Lancers 41-26 last year. Danbury vs. Fairfield
Danbury (1-0) didn't break a sweat against Bassick in its 49-0 season-opener. The Hatters led 41-0 at halftime. Fairfield (0-1) fell to Ridgefield 32-10 last week, hanging close for a half. Fullback/linebacker
at New Fairfield New Fairfield (1-0) opened with a 29-7 win over Weston. Dan Stadnyk scored on a pass reception and an interception return, while the Rebels' defense held the Trojans scoreless (Weston's touchdown came on a kickoff return). Masuk (1-0) coasted past
Bethel (0-1) dropped its opener to Bunnell 22-13. Vincent Cosentino ran 59 yards for a touchdown on the opening play of the game and later threw a scoring pass. Bullard Havens (0-1) endured a 64-8 defeat to Masuk last week and has lost 31 of its last 33 games. Saturday - 8 p.m.
Weston at Newtown
Newtown (0-1) will try to pick up the pieces following its 54-7 season-opening defeat to Pomperaug. It was an inauspicious start for the Nighthawks, who trailed 35-0 after one quarter. Their touchdown came on Brendan O'Connor 's 77-yard kickoff return. Weston (0-1) lost to New Fairfield 29-7 last week. In last year's meeting, Newtown toppled the Trojans 26-6. Monday - 6 p.m.
Bunnell at New Milford
Bunnell (1-0) at New Milford (0-1): New Milford (0-1) couldn't stop Stratford's running game in a 55-34 season-opening setback. The Green Wave also had success on the ground as quarterback Ryan Maddern (15-212) and fullback C.J. Creighton (12-112) both piled up big yardage. Bunnell (1-0) bested Bethel 22-13 last week. A year ago, Bunnell outlasted New Milford 34-28. Monday - 6:30 p.m.
Joel Barlow at Stratford
Barlow (0-1) lost its opener to Immaculate 14-7 after taking a 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter. The Falcons scored on their opening drive but ultimately were undone by four interceptions. Stratford (1-0) raised some eyebrows with last week's 55-34 win over New Milford. Halfback Sean Young (18 carries, 309 yards) scored four touchdowns for the explosive Red Devils. Stratford beat Barlow 46-7 last season.
