Looking for ways to fill the weekend before the big game on Sunday? Look no more, here's an agenda for your weekend in Westport:
Start Saturday with a good breakfast at the Y Water Rats' 18th annual Pancake Breakfast, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Christ and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Elm Street. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Proceeds go the Water Rat Y national swim team. Admission is $5, $3 for children 5 years old and younger. When lunch time rolls around, head over to Chowdafest 2012 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bedford Middle School, 88 North Avenue. Sponsored by the Unitarian Church as a fundraiser for the Connecticut Food Bank, 24 area restaurants will cook up a wide range of chowders and soups, and visitors will get to taste as many as they like and then vote for their favorites. Feed your intellectual appetite at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Westport Public Library, 20 Jesup Road, with a book discussion. Featured will be Deborah Scroggins leading a program on "Wanted Women: Faith, Lies & the War on Terror: The Lives of Ayaan Hirsi Ali & Aaifia Siddiqu." Admission is free. Not interested in the super-hyped football extravaganza Sunday? Take in "Almost, Maine" at 8 p.m. Sunday at MTC MainStage Studio Theatre, 246 Post Road East. Each performance is followed by a wine-and-cheese reception where the audience is invited to meet the actors and production team. Tickets are $25-$45, with a $5 discount for seniors and students.
