Don't let the scorching heat wilt your weekend. Here's some hot stuff to do in Westport to take your mind off the temperatures:

Grab the kids and head to Sherwood Island State Park for Saturday Fun, sponsored by the Friends of Sherwood Island State Park. At 2 p.m., school-garden advocate Annelise McCay will help children plant seeds in small flower pots made from recycled materials on the waterfront park's East Beach. There is no charge in addition to the usual parking fees. For more information, visit http://sherwoodfriends.wordpress.com.

Transport yourself to another world by taking in the 18th annual Bon Odori Folk Dance Festival from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Jesup Green, 20 Jesup Road. The event, sponsored by the Japan Society of Fairfield County, features performances by the UConn taiko drummers, Japanese folk dancing, karate demonstrations and more. Call 203-912-3757 for more information.

Take to the water on Sunday with a boat rented from Longshore Sailing School. Hourly rates range from $18 for a one-person kayak to $46 for a Hobie Getaway that holds up to five passengers. For more information, visit www.longshoresailingschool.com or call 203-226-4646.

Or head to the Westport Weston Family Y's Camp Mahackeno on Sunday, where another of its Summer Sunday programs promises to make a splash -- literally -- from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The camp's outdoor swimming pool will be a cool attraction on what is supposed to be another hot day, along with its 12-acre pond for canoeing and fishing and rock wall for climbing. Admission is free for Y members and $20 per family for non-members. The price of admission includes a cookout, healthful snacks and beverages. Finish up the day Sunday with a visit to Frosty Bear Ice Cream for a neat treat to beat the heat. Located at 161 Cross Highway, the ice cream stand is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and offers 20 different flavors of Longford ice cream. Call 203-414-2446 for more information.
