The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp will celebrate the spirit of founder Paul Newman with a benefit screening of "The Sting" and a musical performance by Academy Award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch on Jan. 30 at the Westport Country Playhouse.
The program begins at 7 p.m. and is the camp's third Founder's Day event at the Playhouse.
Tickets to "Celebrating The Sting & the Gang" are $100, and proceeds benefit the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, which provides summer camping experiences to children with serious illnesses.
The 1973 film stars Newman and Robert Redford as con men in 1930s Chicago, who bilk a criminal banker of a fortune using an elaborate gambling ruse.
Hamlish won an Oscar for the musical score. The film won six other Oscars, including best picture.
"I looked up to Paul Newman as a true role model," Hamlisch said in a statement released by the camp. "He was one of those rare people who put their money where their mouth is. He didn't just dream about making the world a better place, he set his mind to it and did it -- with the camp, as well as with Newman's Own."
The Newman's Own Foundation administer's the Newman's Own brand of food products, whose proceeds fund a wide variety of nonprofit organizations.
The program will celebrate the late Westport resident's creative and philanthropic spirit at a venue that was special to Newman and his widow, actress Joanne Woodward.
"The evening will highlight the values that Paul Newman held most dear -- kindness, compassion and generosity -- that are brought to life each day at the camp he founded 25 years ago," said James Canton, the camp's chief executive officer. "How fitting that we'll celebrate Paul's legacy not only in the town that he called home for nearly a half a century, but also at Westport Country Playhouse, which he and Joanne cherished."
Doors for the performance will open at 6 p.m., with the program beginning at 7.
Sponsorship packages are available and include advertisement opportunities and a pre-screening reception at the nearby Dressing Room restaurant.
