Fresh off a third place finish at FCIACs earlier this month, the Staples girls swim team backed it up with another pair of solid finishes at the state meets to close the season last week. The Wreckers placed third at the Class LL championships at Southern Connecticut State University Nov. 16th and took sixth at the State Open at Yale University Nov. 19.

Staples (470 points) finished behind FCIAC rivals Greenwich (854) and Ridgefield (570.5) at the Class meet as several Wreckers notched top three finishes. The 200 medley relay team of Mia Fraas, Willow Woods, Marissa Healy and Kenzie Healy finished second with a time of 1:48.11.

In the 200 IM, Woods (2:05.96) and Esme Hunter (2:08.32) took second and third. Kenzie Healy finished sixth in the 50 freestyle in 24.52. Marissa Healy finished in second in the 100 butterfly while Michelle Kennedy took third in the 500 freestyle. Hunter finished second in the 100 backstroke while Woods took second in the 100 breaststroke.

Staples finished the meet with a fourth in the 400 freestyle relay behind Kenzie Healy, Hunter, Woods and Marissa Healy

The Wreckers also scored points in diving as sophomore Alexa Mysel finished ninth with 329.55 points.

At the State Open Staples 327 points, just behind Weston (376), Darien (361) and Cheshire (331). Like the Class LL meet, Greenwich (510.5) and Ridgefield (400.5) ran away with the event. Fraas, Woods, Marissa Healy and Kenzie Healy took third in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.47.

Woods and Hunter this time took third and fourth in the 200 IM with times of 2:06.95 and 2:07.03 respectively. Marissa Healy took sixth in the 100 butterfly in 58.07. Hunter finished second in the 100 backstroke (56.72).
