Southington man suspected in Plainville bank robbery captured in Newington

NEWINGTON — A suspect in a bank robbery in Plainville was apprehended at a motel in Newington on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Plainville police identifed the man in custody as 49-year-old David Latino, a Southington resident.

The incident began a little before 12:30 p.m. when police said a man entered the Liberty Bank on East Street in Plainville and handed a teller a note demanding money. He then fled with the money, though it was not clear how much was taken. Police said no weapon was shown during the theft.

The suspect in the robbery was described as a middle-aged male of medium build in a baseball hat and mask. Police believe the man may have robbed the bank two days before, as well as “possibly others.”

Investigators developed Latino as a suspect and tracked him to the motel in Newington. Newington authorities took him into custody there on “unrelated” criminal charges later that evening, according to Plainville police.

Plainville authorities are working to obtain an arrest warrant charging Latino in the bank robbery, police said.
