A winter storm outfoxed forecasters Friday morning, and left behind an unexpected snowfall of between 6 to 8 inches on Westport and the rest of southwestern Connecticut.

The unexpected storm bedeviled commuters crawling to work on slick roads in the morning and, since classes in Westport schools were canceled for the day, delighted youngsters sledding and snow-boarding in the afternoon as skies cleared and the sun shone.

The weekend promises more sunny weather both Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, with clear skies and daytime temperatures rising to the 40s. But more snow could be on the way at the start of next week.
