It's summer in Westport, and as it has for nearly four decades, the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts begins another season of open-air concerts and special events at the downtown venue behind the Westport Public Library.

The 39th season begins Sunday and runs through Sept. 2, with more than 50 nights of free entertainment designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes.

The "Sixties Show," featuring former members of Billy Joel's and Elton John's bands, the Boston Pops and current members of the Smithereens, kicks things off Sunday.

The group, which will take the stage at 7 p.m., has performed or recorded with musical stars such as Paul McCartney, the Beach Boys and Mick Jagger, according to a news release from the pavilion.

Other musical acts set to play at the pavilion, 40 Jesup Road, in the coming week include the Westport Community Band on Tuesday, June 26; the Hall Family Band on Wednesday, June 27; Margot Leverett and the Klezmer Mountain Boys on Thursday, June 28; and Bone Dry on Friday, June 29.
