A woman, reported to be intoxicated while shopping at a local store, was later charged with driving under the influence when she was stopped by police near the intersection of Post Road and Bulkley Avenue last week.

Charrise Weason, 58, of Fairfield was pulled over after an employee at the Alex and Ani store on Post Road East reported that an intoxicated shopper had driven away from the about 3:15 p.m. March 25.

"Upon arrival officers were advised that the female had left the store in a vehicle heading westbound on the Post Road and a description and registration plate was transmitted to all cars," according to the police report.

Officers stopped Weason's car near Post Road and Bulkley Avenue, and according to the report, found that her speech "was slow and lethargic and at times unintelligible, and her eyes were glassy."

Weason was unsteady on her feet, police said, and she failed to pass roadside sobriety tests.

She was transported to police headquarters, where police said they discovered a Hydrcone pill loose in her purse and not in the proper container.

Besides DUI, Weason was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a narcotic not in the original container.

She was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear April 4 in Norwalk Superior Court.
