The Westport Center for Senior Activities will host a series of six, free programs that aim to improve the lives of people with chronic health conditions.

The "Live Well" series begins Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 9, and continues on five successive Wednesdays. Sessions are scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and are sponsored by the Westport Weston Health District.

While the programs are free, advance registration is required, the senior center said, and participants will be expected to attend regularly. The series is designed both for people with chronic health issues and their caregivers.

Sessions are intended to be participatory, the senior center said, and will encourage mutual support. Subjects to be covered include:

Techniques to deal frustration, fatigue and pain.

Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance.

Appropriate use of medications

Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professional

Making informed decisions.

Sessions are to be facilitated by Monica Wheeler, a registered nurse and the health district's community health director, and Loren Pace, also a registered nurse.
