The fallout from the new fiscal reality continues to be felt in Westport -- this time with an announcement that the Selectman's Office is eliminating its hours on Fridays.

The new hours, which will take effect on July 2, were announced this morning by First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff.

"As a result of a decrease in the selectman's 2010-11 budget, there has been a staff reduction," he said. "In order to provide adequate coverage in the Selectman's Office and to allow for vacation time, it will be necessary to close the office on Friday afternoons."

Residents who need to contact the office on Fridays may leave a telephone message at 203-341-1111 or send an e-mail to selectman@westportct.gov, Joseloff said.

The announcement comes on the heels of one last week from the town government, that the Tax Assessor's office was cutting back on its hours.
