WESTPORT — After four years of service on the Board of Education, Brett Aronow will resign following the Sept. 26 board meeting because she is moving.

A resident of Westport since 1993 with her husband and three children, Aronow spent years involved in education as Parent Teacher Association co-president of Greens Farms Elementary and a co-president of the PTA Council.

“I sadly cannot serve on the board not living in Westport. I look forward to finding a very good replacement,” Aronow said.

Chairman Michael Gordon expressed his disappointment in losing Aronow’s service.

“Thank you for giving us all this notice and it’s sad that you’re leaving, but we’ll plan to formally roast you at the second meeting in September which will be your last meeting,” Gordon said. “I know all of us on the board are very sorry for you to leave.”

The person who replaces Aronow has to be a Democrat because she was a Democrat. Towards that end, Gordon said the board would be working closely with the Democratic Town Committee. The tentative deadline for applicants is Sept. 16.

“It’s a very important time to serve on the Board of Education. We have just hired a new superintendent and a new high school principal and they will be working on their plans for the district for the next generation, over this school year, and I think it’s a very consequential time for anyone to get involved with Westport schools so we encourage everybody to apply,” Gordon said.
