STAR benefit run/walk steps off in Westport
WESTPORT — The 11th annual STAR Walk and 5K Run benefiting STAR Inc., an agency that provides programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will take place May 1 in Westport at Sherwood Island State Park.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the event, which includes a 5K and 1K run options this year, gets underway at 10 a.m. About 800 people are expected to participate, according to organizers.
The event raises funds for programs serving infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families in Westport, Weston, Wilton, Norwalk, New Canaan and Darien.
Chaz Davis, a paralympic athlete and graduate of University of Hartford, is scheduled to attend the event, as well as Miss Connecticut USA Tiffany Teixeira, Miss Teen Connecticut USA Katy Brown and the Marvin Dancers. Also planned are children’s activities and demonstrations by Earthplace, the Westport nature preserve.
Registration fee for walkers and runners is $25; for children/students under 18 it is $15, and for those under age 5 there is no fee. A family of runners and walkers can register for $65.
