SRC women win 5th straight title at Head of the Charles
The Saugatuck Rowing Club Women’s Youth Eight finished first at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass., on Oct. 21.
It was the fifth consecutive win for the Saugatuck junior team and the first time in the HOCR’s 54-year history a team has won five straight races.
“It was a battle the entire way down,” said Caitlin Esse, senior, who also competed last year. “Being in such close competition with the amazing athletes from Greenwich Crew made the race remarkable. I am very proud of our tenacity.”
The Saugatuck Rowing Club placed three other boats in the top 10: Men’s Youth Double (third), Second Varsity Women’s Youth 8+ (ninth) and the Women’s Youth Coxed +4 (10th).

Other notable finishes by coaches and distinguished club members: third place in the Women’s Alumni Eight for University of Michigan Coach Jess Eiffert and Louisa Freeman; fifth place in the Women’s Grand Master Singles Kirsten de Biasi; fifth place in the Men’s Master Eights for the University of California, Berkeley Coach Gordon Getsinger; and, eighth place in the Parent / Child Doubles (Westporters) Stephan and Christoph Bub.
