WESTPORT — Wilton Road was reopened at 1 p.m. Saturday after a rollover accident briefly closed it down.

Wilton Road was closed between Bumpy Lane and the Wilton town line after a one-car accident downed a power line, police said.

Westport police and fire departments responded to reports of an accident on Wilton Road in the area of Poplar Plain Road around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police said a driver lost control of their vehicle and struck a utility pole before swerving to the other side of the road and rolling over.

When police and fire fighters arrived on scene, they found the driver trapped inside of the car, which was laying on its side. Fire officials said that hydraulic rescue tools, including the “jaws of life,” were used to get the driver out of the wreckage.

The driver was treated by emergency services for minor injuries on the scene.

Police said that the road will remain closed until Eversource can clear the power lines from the roadway.

It took crews two-and-a-half hours to clear the road and re-open it.
