Last Saturday the Westport Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the third race of the 2016 Road Runners Program with a 3.8 mile run starting at Longshore Club Park. Despite the hot and humid weather Luke McCambley, of Westport, won his second Road Runners race of the season as he led 172 runners over the scenic course with the time of 20:47.

McCambley’s time, however, was well off the course record of 19:06 set by Dave Peterson of Fairfield in 1981. The first woman to finish was Eliza Tabacchi, of Weston, in 19th place overall with a time of 25:36. Tabacchi’s time was also short of the women’s course record of 22:16 set by Kerri Lyons, of Wilton, in 2014.

Second and third places in the men’s division in Saturday’s race were awarded to Romain Marevil, of Washington, D.C., and Daniel Landy, of Westport, with respective times of 21:15 and 21:46. Second and third places in the women’s division were awarded to Emily Lewson, of Ridgefield, in 23rd place and Jessica Polcer, of Fairfield, in 34th with respective times of 27:27 and 27:28. Other Westport-Weston residents who finished in the top ten were Tom Harding, fourth in 22:12, Paul Greenberg, sixth in 23:23, and Nadeem Ahmad, eighth in 23:49.

The next scheduled Road Runners race will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 8 a.m. with a 4.1 mile run starting at Compo Beach.
