Ridgefield girls fall in PKs

After 100 scoreless minutes in the FCIAC semifinals Monday evening, the second-seeded Tigers lost 1-0 Monday to No. 3 St. Joseph on penalty kicks.

"It was an amazing game," Ridgefield coach Robb Banyai said. "We gave St. Joe's all they could handle."

Ridgefield came up big in the first round of penalty kicks to stay alive and force a second round.

With the Tigers trailing 4-3, goalkeeper Alexa Darling stopped St. Joseph's last shot to give Ridgefield a chance. Caitlin Trillo then buried her penalty kick to tie the score 4-4 and force a second round. St. Joe's eventually won the shootout 7-5.

"We just played so well as a team," Banyai said. "Like I told the girls, we have no reason to hang our heads."

Last season, Ridgefield was knocked out in the FCIAC quarterfinals with a loss to Darien in penalty kicks.
