Raymond E. Bowne

Born Nov. 5, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry and Grace (Bassett) Bowne and had been a lifelong resident of Westport. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea from 1946 to 1947. He held the rank of tech corporal and worked as a mechanic with the Military Police during his time in the service.
He worked for the Board of Education in Westport for almost 25 years, beginning in the 1960s, and was a volunteer firefighter with Vigilant Engine Co. No. 3. He also raced stock car No. 565 at the Danbury racetrack in the late 1950s and early '60s and loved to ride motorcycles, both on- and off-road. He was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed spending time at Sherwood Island, working on crossword and jumble puzzles.
Survivors include a niece, Linda Balocca of Norwalk, and a "family" of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at the Westport Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Ave. Burial is private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westport Center for Senior Activities. The Harding Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
