Q: What was Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust like when you took the reins in 2005?
A: When I came on board, the organization and its mission was very different. Its focus was narrower, smaller, focusing on programming, cultural activities and services. We had $14,000 in net assets, our operating budget was less than $100,000. We didn't even own property. Today, we're focused on community building in three target neighborhoods while at the same time offering comprehensive homeownership counseling. We have a staff of 13. Our operating budget exceeds $2 million. We own 19 buildings, which are home to 102 individuals and families.
