Preschool children at Temple Israel Early Childhood Center recently decided to forego the school's Thanksgiving feast this year to donate the food to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.

About 25 students in the Fours program decided to skip the celebration after teachers asked how they could help Hurricane Sandy victims in emphasizing good deeds and giving as part of Jewish tradition, according to a release.

The feast would have taken place at the school on Monday, Nov, 19, but instead food bank staff arrived on Tuesday, Nov. 20, to pick up food items such as stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, soups, apple sauce, powdered milk and breakfast cereals.

The students also made placemats for families who lost their homes due to the storm to make the holiday more enjoyable for them.
