Power KO'd, fire sparked by downed power line
A downed power line Monday night at Greens Farms and Turkey Hill roads sparked a fire in nearby trees and knocked out power for several hundred customers in the neighborhood.
The incident took place about 7:25 p.m. when firefighters were dispatched to the scene, where fire was burning in several trees and vegetation along the roadside after a live power line fell from a nearby utility pole.
Greens Farms Road was closed from Turkey Hill South to New Creek Road as firefighters battled the blaze.
Connecticut Light & Power Co. shut down power in the area during emergency operations. About 200 area customers were affected at the height of the blackout. Power was fully restored overnight, CL&P reported.
