An eastbound stretch of Post Road East in Westport remained closed for hours Tuesday after a box truck struck low-hanging wires and snapped a utility pole.

The eastbound lanes near 252 Post Road East -- shut down after the noon mishap -- were expected to be closed for around six hours, police said, while repairs were taking place. At press deadline Tuesday, the closure remained in effect.

Westbound lanes were open to traffic.

The snapped utility pole caused "hazardous conditions" in the road, according to police. Connecticut Light and Power crews were dispatched to the scene, working to fix the damaged pole.
