The driver of a Porsche that smashed into the entrance area of a Post Road West condominium complex on Friday afternoon escaped serious injuries, but the building's elevator was disabled.

The incident, which triggered an automatic alarm at the West Gate Condominiums, took place about 2:15 p.m. Friday when the late-model Porsche accidentally surged out of control and struck the building's entryway, Westport firefighters said.

The driver suffered minor lacerations to his hand, but declined to be taken to the hospital.

A town building official was called to the scene to evaluate the damage to the building. Afterward, control of the building was turned back over to the West Gate property manager and residents were allowed to return to their units.

The elevator, which was damaged by the accident, remained out of service, police said.

The incident is being investigated by Westport police.
