Police investigate death of man found in Susquehanna River

PORT DEPOSIT, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a man found partially in the water in the Susquehanna River.

Troopers were called to Port Deposit area Tuesday morning after a kayaker found a man in the water, police said in a news release Wednesday. The man identified as Rene Reyes Carranza, 48, of Street was slumped over a log that was completely submerged and was resting near a steep embankment on the Cecil County side of the Susquehanna River, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Investigators found no signs of obvious trauma on Carranza’s body and no indication of violence or foul play in the area where he was found. Police are looking for Carranza’s 2006 black Honda Ridgeline with Maryland tags. The investigation is continuing.
