The Westport Rotary will host Westport Police Chief Dale Call as its guest speaker at noon Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Inn at Longshore, 260 Compo Road South.

Call, chief since last October, joined the department in 1981 as a special police officer and became a full-time officer in 1984, according to a rotary news release. He progressed to sergeant in 1993, inspector in 2001, administrative lieutenant in 2004, detective commander in 2006 and deputy chief in 2007.

The Westport native and 1980 graduate of Staples High School holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration, master of science degree in strategic leadership and a graduate certificate in criminal justice administration. The son of the late Westport Police Inspector George Call and Marjorie Call also graduated from the 233rd session of the FBI National Academy, the release states.

Call has served in numerous assignments, including bloodhound handler for 11 years, field training officer, crash investigator, K-9 unit commander, honor guard commander and president of the Westport Police Benevolent Association in 2000 and 2001.
