NEW HAVEN — A 20-year-old man was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police identified the man as Michael Ian Reilly, of Saw Mill Drive in Wallingford.

It was just after 2 a.m. Sunday when the Troop G barracks of state police received multiple 911 calls about a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer on I-95 north near the Exit 46 off-ramp.

A 32-year-old Florida man was driving in the right lane of the four-lane highway and started to slow down for construction-related traffic ahead when he was rear-ended by Reilly “at a high rate of speed,” the state police accident report said.

Reilly sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

The state Department of Transportation responded to help shut down the right and center lanes as crews investigated and processed the scene. Throughout the investigation, the left lane remained open.

State police continue to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper First Class Troy Biggs at 203-696-2500.
