Police: New Haven woman struck vehicle, fled
WESTPORT — A New Haven woman hit a man’s car while passing him on Greens Farms Road and then fled the scene, police said.
On Nov. 14 around 7:45 a.m., an officer stopped a car for speeding on the Sherwood Island Connector. The driver was issued a misdemeanor summons for speeding and left the scene, police said.
While the officer was speaking to the woman, a second car pulled over to the roadway shoulder. After the woman left, the officer spoke to the driver of the second car, who said the woman had allegedly passed him on the right and struck his car when he turned onto Greens Farms Road from Clapboard Hill Road, police said.
The second driver said the woman initially stopped, but then fled the scene. The officer observed damage to the driver’s car and a paint transfer consistent with the paint on the woman’s car, police said. The woman did not say she had just been involved in a car accident when speaking to the officer, according to police.
A description of the first driver’s car was put out over the radio to other patrol units, and her car was located by another officer in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot. The officer found damage to the woman’s car consistent with the second driver’s statement of events, police said.
The New Haven woman was arrested and brought to police headquarters, where she was charged with evading responsibility and passing on the right. She was released on a promise to appear and was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Nov. 20.
