ORANGE — A car burglar pointed a gun at a woman when she confronted the thief for taking items from her vehicle this weekend, police said.

Police said the owner of a Skyview Road home under construction reported seeing a person in an orange ski mask go into her vehicle around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the vehicle was left parked on the road, unlocked and with the engine running, but the key fob was not inside.

When the woman ran out of the home and yelled at the individual, he got out of the vehicle with some items and got into a nearby white Infinity Q50, being driven by another masked person, police said.

Police said the woman followed the Infinity, which had been reported stolen from Wethersfield. Police said when the cars stopped at a traffic light on Derby Avenue, the driver of the Infinity leaned out and pointed a gun at the woman.

The woman called police, who urged her to stop following the vehicle for her own safety. Police said she reported last seeing the car getting onto Route 15.

After the incident, police urged residents not to confront individuals stealing from vehicles.

“We are finding that they tend to be armed and unpredictable,” police said.

The department also advised residents to report any suspicious activity and vehicles to police, and to remove any valuables from their cars and lock their doors.
