WESTPORT — It was more than words could say when the Westport Historical Society hosted its first Poet’s Open Mic Night on Friday.

A dozen area poets came by to share their verse and enjoy an attentive audience.

“There are a lot of closet writers here, and not-so-closet,” explained moderator Ralph Adams of Westport, “and they appreciate the opportunity to share their work with a friendly crowd.”

“As an organization that celebrates the rich cultural vibrancy of our town,” said Sue Gold, executive director, “poetry is one of the great literary arts where we’d like to give people their voice.”
