Photos: Westport Farmers Market hosts Great Pumpkin Toss

The Great Pumpkin Toss returned to the Westport Farmers Market Thursday as a way to help encourage people to compost old jack-o-lanterns from Halloween and reduce food waste.

Pumpkins were collected at the Action Waste Solutions station within the market.

“Every year roughly 1.3 billion pumpkins are landfilled but together, we can help fight frightening Halloween food waste by composting them into new life as food for animals, or to revitalize soil + return valuable nutrients to our local food system,” Westport Farmers Market wrote on its Facebook page.
