WESTPORT — A Philadelphia man was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol and failure to obey control signals on Wilton Road Saturday night.

Officers observed a vehicle driving northbound on Wilton Road without stopping for the red traffic control signal at the intersection of King’s Highway. When police stopped the vehicle in the area of Ivy Knoll, they detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on the breath of the driver, Timothy Ellis. He was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.

Once at headquarters, Ellis, 26, took a breath test, which found him to be over the legal limit. The Pennsylvania man was charged, released after posting a $500 cash bond, and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court Jan. 29.
