The 38th annual Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day 5-mile race is scheduled for Nov. 26 at 8:15 a.m. at the Wakeman Boys/Girls Club, loacted at 385 Center Street in Southport.

In addition to the 5-mile race, there will also be a 2.6 mile walk through Southport Harbor for those who prefer the ease of a scenic Thanksgiving Day stroll.

“We’re now in our 38th year and we have always strived to put on a safe, enjoyable event for all,” said race director Jeff Palmer in a press release. “With the continued support from our sponsors we are confident that we will again be able provide significant donations to local charities.”

The race has benefited organizations including the Laddie Lawrence Scholarship Fund (founded by the Pequot Running Club) at Staples High School.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers: $300 for first, $150 for second and $100 for third. There will also be a post-race raffle with many prizes including a hybrid bike from Cycle Dynamics of Westport.

The first 5,500 entrants will receive a long sleeve t-shirt. The easiest way to enter is online at www.pequotrunners.org. Entrants may also sign up in person at the Wakeman Boys/Girls Club in Southport on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, Nov. 24 & Nov. 25, from 7-9 p.m. Race day registration is also available until 7:45 a.m., but no shirts will be given to race-day registrants.

The Trumbull Bagpipe Band will be back for the 32nd consecutive year to lead the runners to the starting line.
