WESTPORT — Staples High School is home to many interesting smells, most of which don’t prompt fire department attention, but midday Wednesday an odor from a clogged drain prompted a school-wide evacuation.

“It was a call for an unknown odor and ended up being a clogged drain. That is literally what it was and the plumber is going to take care of it,” Westport Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Kronick said.

Staples student newspaper, Inkings News, posted a photo on Instagram of a fire truck in front of the school around 1pm on Oct. 3. The post noted all students and staff evacuated the building due to the fire alarm. “First responders arrived to assess the situation and hopefully put an end to it,” the post read.
