An SUV surged out of control Saturday evening and crashed into a storefront at the Compo Shopping Center, but no injuries and only minor damage resulted from the mishap.

Firefighters were dispatched about 6 p.m. Saturday to the Post Road East shopping complex where a Lexus SUV had jumped the curb and rammed the front of the Painters Supply Store, shattering one of the display windows.

The vehicle landed about 2 feet inside the store, firefighters said, but the driver was not injured and no one was inside the store, which had closed for the day.

A town building official was called to the scene to assess the damage to the building, which other than shattered glass, appeared to be relatively minor.

The broken window was boarded up, and firefighters left the scene after about an hour.
