The seasonal ban on animals on Westport's public beaches takes effect next week.
As of Tuesday -- which also happens to be April's Fools Day -- dogs and other domestic animals are prohibited from waterfront parks, including Compo, Burying Hill and Old Mill beaches,
"Animals will not be permitted on any beach property, which includes all grass, sand and the parking areas, except Soundview parking lot at Compo Beach, as well as the roads within the beach area," said Stuart McCarthy, the town's parks and recreation director, in a statement. "This regulation will be in effect until Oct. 1."
Parking emblems will be required on all vehicles entering town beaches beginning May 1.
