New Greek reival colonial offers 'details of an earlier era"™
Published 1:10 pm, Thursday, March 31, 2011
Two stately copper beech trees stand on the front lawn of the newly constructed Greek revival colonial house at 20 Woodside Ave. in the Old Hill area of Westport, near Nash Pond. The trees may have been around a century ago to see a different era of colonial construction.
This house was built in 2010 with the detail of an earlier era but also with all of today's amenities, including his and hers master bath, walk-in closets, a gourmet country or farmhouse kitchen and various types of marble floors and counter tops.
In addition to the 15-room main house, which has 5,535 square feet of living space, there is also a two-bedroom guest house or cottage containing almost 1,000-square feet of living space. The cottage has a separate entrance and a separate address, 8 Hyatt Lane. It also has its own attached two-car garage with a laundry closet, an attic, bay window and window seat and a fireplace with a hand-painted tile surround. The tiles feature exotic animals in a circus motif.
The cottage, which has a front garden and stone wall, is a legal rental property.
Although the property and the two houses are within easy access of downtown Westport and all its retail shops and restaurants, they provide those who live there with a feeling of privacy and distance from well-traveled areas. At the far end of Woodside Avenue is Earthplace, the Nature Discovery Center.
