NY resident charged with DUI in Westport
Update: According to court documents, the case against Kathleen Tiernan was dismissed.
WESTPORT — A New York resident was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and alcohol and failure to drive in proper lane following her arrest Sunday night on Wilton Road.
Around midnight on Jan. 28, an officer saw a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane of Wilton Road. Several seconds later, the vehicle swerved back into its proper lane and then traveled over the line on the side of the roadway, police said.
Police conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of 304 Wilton Road and identified the operator as Kathleen Tiernan, 47, of Westhampton Beach. In speaking with Tiernan, the officer detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath and asked her to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed.
Once in custody and transported to headquarters, Tiernan was administered a breath test, which revealed Tiernan was over the legal limit of .08. She was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane. The 47-year-old was released after posting a $500 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court Feb. 7.
