Music trade group cites Westport schools
A music-industry trade group has named the Westport Public Schools to its 2014 list of Best Communities for Music Education, the local school system has announced.
Westport is among 376 school districts nationwide named to the list issued by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.
The designation was based on a survey of 2,000 school districts nationwide, the organization said in a news release. It recognizes districts that include music in their core curriculums and "set the bar for offering students access to comprehensive music education," according to the release.
The California-based NAMM is a trade group of musical-instrument manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
