Music for Youth to kick off free concerts
Music for Youth's Free Young Persons' Concert Series will open its 2012-13 season on Saturday, Sept. 15, with a 2 p.m. performance by New York string quintet Sybarite 5 at Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Fairfield.
The group, which plays music from Radiohead to Mozart, features violinists Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violist Angela Pickett, cellist Laura Metcalf and bass player Louis Levitt, according to a news release.
The series will continue through the fall with performances by pianist Andrew Tyson on Saturday, Oct. 20, violinist Paul Huang on Saturday, Nov. 10, and clarinetist Romie DeGuise Langlois on Sunday, Dec. 9. Free master classes for advanced artists will follow the concerts, geared toward individuals 5 to 18.
Westport-based Music for Youth was founded 17 years ago as part of South Shore Music by Weston resident Marianne Liberatore, a music enthusiast who died June 1. Its free music series will continue under Cynthia Cummiskey, of Redding, its new executive program director, who worked with Liberatore for 16 years in creating past series, the release states.
No tickets are required for the concerts; a child guarantees admission. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the concert.
