More problems await passengers traveling today on Metro-North Railroad -- a day after soaring temperatures wreaked havoc with the New Haven Line from afternoon to late night.

Today -- Saturday -- Metro-North has issued an alert warning that riders should expect delays of at least 15 minutes because of heat-related problems.

Yesterday, the heat disabled several trains, including one that stalled on the eastbound tracks in Westport and trapped several hundred passengers in oven-like conditions for more than an hour.

Service on the line was later completely suspended westbound for several hours, and delays of from one-half to several hours persisted in both directions for the rest of the night.

In issuing the alert for delays today, Metro-North officials did not indicate when they expect rail service to return to normal.
