A complaint about suspicious people in the woods led to charges against a Fairfield man Monday.

William O'Brien, 51, of Woodland Road in Fairfield, was found in violation of Westport's town ordinance that bans hunting, according to police.

Police said O'Brien had been in the woods crossbow hunting and had "harvested a deer."

"While he did have a valid hunting permit and a signed private land consent form from the landowner, he still was in violation of the town ordinance, police said.

O'Brien was issued an infraction for illegal hunting, according to police.
