Man faces DUI charge after Easton Road crash
A man has been charged with driving under the influence after his SUV struck a tree on Easton Road earlier this month.
Paul Byron, 54, of Jeremiah Road in Newtown, surrendered at police headquarters last Friday after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with the Oct. 1 accident.
According to the report, as Byron was being treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene of the one-vehicle crash, an officer noticed that he had “glassy eyes, slurred speech and an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath.”
Police issued a search warrant for the hospital toxicology reports and, according to the report, it was determined that Byron’s blood-alcohol content was 0.23 percent, more than double the state’s legal threshold of 0.08 percent.
Bond was set at $50,000 and he is scheduled to appear Nov. 4 at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
