An Ansonia man has been charged with trying to shoplift energy drinks last summer from the local Super Stop & Shop store.
Christopher Freer, 36, of West Road in Ansonia, faces a charge of sixth-degree larceny in connection with the Aug. 28 incident. He was taken into custody last Friday, with the assistance of Shelton police.
According to the report, Freer was spotted as he ran from the Post Road East supermarket with 12 four-packs of Red Bull energy drink. The suspect was followed by a store employee, police said, and dumped the cans in the parking lot before fleeing the scene in a waiting car.
Freer was later identified by video surveillance from the store, and taken into custody at Shelton police headquarters.
Bond was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear Dec. 14 at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
