The pilot of a 26-foot motorboat was charged with reckless operation of the vessel while intoxicated after a passenger fell from the boat and suffered serious injuries when he was struck by its propeller Saturday afternoon off Compo Beach.
The incident was reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday via a "911" emergency call from a passenger aboard a 2008 Sea Ray Sundeck boat. The caller said that another passenger had been injured after falling off the vessel and being hit by a propeller. The boat, which is registered in Westport, was headed to Compo Marina with the 21-year-old injured passenger back on board.
The vessel was intercepted by the Westport police marine unit, who brought the injured man back to the marina. The man, who police said had serious injuries to his lower extremities, was treated by Westport EMS and taken to Norwalk Hospital.
The man operating the boat -- Cyrus Hussein Fardoust, 21, of Rockville, Md. -- was charged with reckless operation of a vessel while under the influence, and held on $10,000 bond.
Westport marine police continue to investigate the incident.
