A 22-year-old man faces an assault charge after police said he got into a physical altercation with a female companion in the parking lot of Super Stop & Shop on Post Road East.
Ahmed Duncan of Palisade Avenue in Bridgeport was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace in connection with the Monday incident.
Officers arriving on the scene separated Duncan and the woman, and witnesses told them that when the crying woman earlier had tried to leave their car, Duncan struck her with a closed fist and knocked her to the ground. The woman had visible injuries on her face from the blow, police said.
Duncan also was charged with several motor vehicle violations after police said they discovered the license plates did not belong on the vehicle.
Bond was set at $100 and Duncan was scheduled to have appeared the next day at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
