Bennett Sacks, 21, of Fairfield, was charged with driving under the influence after an accident early last Thursday.

Sacks was involved in a one-car motor vehicle accident on Ford Road, where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, police said.

Sacks told officers that he tried driving away, but the vehicle's damage was significant and he was unable to do so, police said. While speaking with Sacks, officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, according to the report. He also failed a field sobriety test, police said.

Sacks was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to drive in the proper lane and evading responsibility. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 3 in Norwalk Superior Court.
