Thomas Abbotts, 57, of Greens Farms Road, was charged with disorderly conduct and other charges Saturday after police said he tried to prevent his pickup truck from being repossessed.

Officers were dispatched to investigate a disturbance reported at Abbotts' property, where he was engaged in a dispute with a repossession agent who had come take back a pickup truck, according to the report. The agent's truck had been blocked by Abbotts' backhoe and truck, and he was refusing to move the vehicles, police said.

Abbotts also used bolt cutters to cut the chains attached to the repossession agent's tow truck, police said. He refused repeated requests from officers on the scene to move his backhoe and pickup so the agent could leave the property, according to the report.

In addition to disorderly conduct, Abbotts was charged with interfering with an officer and third-degree criminal mischief.

He was released after posting $500 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 16 in Norwalk Superior Court.
