Marie F. Thompson, 87, died July 9, 2010, at Norwalk Hospital.

She was the wife of Robert W. Thompson, who was by her side when she passed.

Born June 27, 1923, in Fordham, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Laurence Frazier and the late Ann (Jones) Frazier.

After graduating from PS 72, she attended Syracuse University and graduated from New York University with a degree in physical education. She taught physical education at a high school in Garden City, N.Y.

She met her husband, Robert, while he was a cadet at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. They married July 29, 1946.

In 1958, the Thompsons moved to Westport, where they raised their five children. While in Westport, she was instrumental in establishing a successful girls intramural sports program in the early 1970s. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, an amazing, inventive cook and an avid traveler, with a world class sense of humor. She was a life-long New York Yankees fan. She loved flowers, dancing and the beach. Her greatest achievement was her dedication to her husband and her family.

Besides her husband, the love of her life for 64 years, she is survived by her sons, Robert L. Thompson and his wife, Pamela, Michael F. Thompson, and Stephen W. Thompson and his wife, Susan; her daughters, Jody Thompson Kennedy and her husband, Shane, and Kelly Thompson Schoder and her husband, Donald; as well as eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

In lieu of any service, the family will gather for a private memorial.
